Researchers call for a robust High Seas Treaty in order to protect penguin species


Penguins may not require passports to travel, but they do need protection, according to an international research team who analyzed 131 scientific papers on penguin movement at sea. The work comes as the United Nations continues to negotiate a new treaty regarding the conservation and sustainable use of areas beyond national jurisdiction — otherwise known as the the high seas, where no coastal state can claim ownership.
