19 January 2026: With the entry into force of the BBNJ Agreement (High Seas Treaty) on 17 January 2026, the international ocean conservation community faces a historic opportunity, and challenge, to turn this new groundbreaking Treaty into meaningful action for the protection and sustainable use of High Seas marine life.
To support this next phase, the High Seas Alliance is launching a new webinar series, “Let’s Talk BBNJ.” The series aims to create a collaborative and accessible platform for sharing knowledge, building capacity, and fostering expertise across the diverse community working to implement the Treaty.

The “Let’s Talk BBNJ” webinar series is designed to provide technical guidance and in-depth briefings, peer-to-peer learning opportunities and a forum for dialogue on marine protected area related topics and broader High Seas governance issues, including finance and equitable benefit-sharing.
The webinar series is open to government representatives, civil society organisations, the broader conservation community and youth groups to help ensure that knowledge and momentum around the Treaty is shared and expanded.
Kicking off the series, the first webinar in the series will take place on 19 January 2026, with an online celebration of the BBNJ Agreement’s entry into force. This inaugural event will set the tone for the series and mark the start of a shared learning journey toward effective High Seas implementation.
Stay tuned here for more details on upcoming sessions- and join us as we talk BBNJ and work together to shape the future of the High Seas.
