High Seas Alliance at the 10th Our Ocean Conference

Date: 23rd April 2025

As the world gathers in Busan for the 10th Our Ocean Conference, April 28-30, the High Seas Alliance is focused on one urgent priority: accelerating the ratification of the High Seas Treaty. With the clock ticking to secure protection for biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction, this year’s conference is a pivotal moment to keep up the momentum.

Throughout the conference, we’re convening leaders, experts, and ocean champions across three key events:

April 28 (16:20–17:50)

In Room 216, BEXCO, we’ll explore how regional action can support global ambitions to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030—including through swift ratification and implementation of the BBNJ Agreement.

April 29 (11:00–12:30)
The BBNJ Agreement and Regional Fisheries Management Organizations: Navigating Shared Waters & Responsibilities
Join us in Room 213 as we unpack how the new Treaty aligns with existing governance structures and the shared responsibility of safeguarding biodiversity in the high seas.

April 29 (16:30–18:00)
From Busan to Nice: Accelerating Ambition in the Race for Ratification of the High Seas Treaty
This high-level event in Rooms 203+204 will spotlight government leadership and collaboration to ensure the Treaty enters into force by the next Our Ocean Conference in Nice, 2026.

Throughout the week, visit us at the High Seas Alliance booth to learn more about the Treaty, meet our coalition members  attending the conference, and discover how you can support ocean action that matters.

The race for ratification is on. Busan is the next mile marker, and we’re not slowing down.

See you in Busan!
